I may be an engineering student, but I still strive to fuel my artistic side.Â
I dabble in all sorts of mediums! Sketching, oils, gouache (still a bit of a work in progress), tattooing just to name a few.
I was lucky enough to enroll in a Tech Art course at UW. Here we collaborate with another Engineering student and a Fine Arts student to create interactive sculptures, leveraging our artistic and technical skills.
Our first sculpture was part of a book inspired exhibit, where we took a book and incorporated it into an interactive piece. Our next sculpture strived to create a meditative and quiet space to interact and connect with nature, a rare find in our busy and bustling world.
My most recent fixation has been on improving my sketching skills and using more colour in my drawings.
I've always found drawing people I know to be challenging. Translating the people I see in real life onto paper can be stressful since you never know if someone might say "Oh my goodness Abby, you think I look like THAT???".
But I am afraid no longer! I just put my pencils to paper and have fun :)
I draw inspiration from all sorts of things: my lovely significant other, Cyberpunk 2077 (would you believe I've played the game 6 whole times?), random ideas, anatomy, and horror (although I don't want to scare anyone too much so those are not included).
Oil paints are by far my favourite medium. I appreciate their versatility and the patience they require. I definitely wish they could be cheaper though ;)
This is a collection of some of my favourite paintings, while some are a little rougher than others, they all have plenty of significance in my heart.
If you'd like some more information and context behind the pieces (plus some bonuses), here's a collection of some of my art in a short slideshow.
